Jessica Garcia Killed While Fleeing at High Speed from Traffic Stop

Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident, F.E. Everett Turnpike, Nashua
On Wednesday, December 21st, 2016, at approximately 12:50 AM, Tr. T. Repucci of the New Hampshire State Police Troop B Barracks conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2006 Nissan Maxima southbound on the Everett Turnpike in Nashua near exit 8. While Tr. T. Repucci attempted to identify the driver of the vehicle; the driver fled the scene at a high rate of speed. Subsequently, the vehicle crashed while taking the exit 7W off ramp. Jessica Marie Zamora killed a boy in head-on crash in San Jose on Christmas Day

SAN JOSE — A suspected drunken driver, Jessica Marie Zamora, was already wanted for DUI warrant when she killed self and boy in crash, when she caused a head-on crash Christmas morning that killed her and a teen boy riding in another car with his family, authorities said.

Before she got behind the wheel for that fateful drive, she was reportedly seen having a couple of drinks at a nearby bar. She didn’t make it a half-mile before she careened downhill over the center median separating the wide and fast-moving traffic on Capitol Expressway.

On Wednesday, the coroner’s office formally identified 14-year-old San Jose resident Andrew Nguyen as the second victim of the collision. He was riding with his parents in an eastbound silver 2004 Lexus on Capitol near Snell Avenue when around 12:28 a.m., an oncoming 2012 Chevy Malibu reportedly crossed over into their lanes and hit them head-on, police said.   MORE

From San Franciso Examiner

Zamora’s friends and family have posted numerous messages of grief and mourning since the crash and started a GoFundMe page to raise money to support her 5-year-old daughter.

But in addition to raising $2,759 as of this morning, the family has had to contend with insulting messages left on the page blaming Zamora and even her parents for the crash.

A GoFundMe account has been established by Mr. Jefferson’s family, to help with funeral expenses.

My daddy, Alonza Jefferson Jr., was taken from us suddenly and unexpectedly in a tragic car accident cause by a drunk driver. I lieu of this, my family is having financial needs that can’t be met on our own regarding his funeral and memorial services. A new policy at the funeral home my daddy wanted to be taken to requires payment upfront before taking on services. We were not expecting this and now have to graciously and thankfully ask for any and all help that anyone may be able to offer. My family is hurting, we lost our backbone of the family, he was our glue and led our family so strongly and with so much pride. We want to give my dad a beautiful service and fulfill his wishes for this unfortunate event in our lives. I ask that if you can, any donation is so greatly appreciated and helps my family tremendously. We love my daddy so much and we know he is happy and safe and at home with our Heavenly Father. Thank you all so much for your love and support during this time. We love each and every one of you.

Fatal New Year’s Day Crash Leaves One Dead in Hammond

Hammond, LA- Shortly after 5:00 AM on Sunday, January 1, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a two-vehicle wrong direction fatal crash on Interstate 55 north of Wardline Rd. in Hammond. The crash has claimed the life of 23-year-old Christian Delgado of Hammond.

The preliminary investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Delgado was driving a 1994 Honda Accord southbound in the northbound lane of Interstate 55.

The preliminary investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Delgado was driving a 1994 Honda Accord southbound in the northbound lane of Interstate 55. Delgado crashed head-on into a northbound 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by 46-year-old Kenneth Mebane of Greensboro NC. Despite being properly restrained, Delgado sustained severe injuries in the crash. He was pronounced deceased on-scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. Mebane was also properly restrained at the time of the crash. He was not injured. Presently, impairment is suspected to have been a contributing factor in this crash. Troopers obtained blood samples from Delgado. As part of the on-going crash investigation, the samples will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Mebane provided Troopers with a voluntary breath sample, which showed no trace amounts of alcohol present.

The difficult assignment of death notification continues to be one of the hardest elements of the Law Enforcement profession. Notification is even more difficult when Troopers know that the outcome was preventable. As 2017 begins, please take a moment to put the safety of you and your loved ones ahead of everything else. Aside from sound decisions behind the wheel, speak to your family and friends about the consequences of impaired driving. Remind them that putting on a seatbelt greatly reduces the chances of being killed or seriously injured in a crash. Speak to them about the dangers of distracted driving. The conversation you have today could be the difference tomorrow.

From New York Post

Prosecutors say a police officer was off-duty and drunk when he crashed his vehicle into a tree in a suburb north of New York City, killing a friend who was riding with him.

Twenty-seven-year-old Harry Kyreakedes was charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated following the Monday morning accident in White Plains that claimed the life of 27-year-old Isaac Ward.

David Chong, the Westchester County city’s public safety commissioner, said Kyreakedes had a blood-alcohol content of 0.23 percent when he crashed his Jeep into a tree around 3 a.m.

Kyreakedes had a blood-alcohol content of 0.23 percent when he crashed his Jeep into a tree around 3 a.m.

Ward was unresponsive when he was rushed to White Plains Hospital Center, where he later died. Kyreakedes underwent surgery for serious injuries to his legs.

Kyreakedes joined the city of New Rochelle Police Department about a year ago. It couldn’t be determined if he has a lawyer.  MORE

Killer and Ward were best buddies

Ward and Kyreakedes, both from Beacon Hill Drive in Dobbs Ferry, were longtime friends and 2007 graduates of Dobbs Ferry High School. Ward’s death and his pal’s arrest jolted the tight-knit community. Several friends and ex-classmates reached on Facebook and by phone said they were uncomfortable speaking for attribution in deference to both families.

They all referred to Ward by his nickname, Hooshie, and recalled his good nature and sense of humor. Some worked with him on village recreation programs, others grew up with him on Beacon Hill.

Police said it appeared that Kyreakedes was driving toward downtown White Plains when he crashed into the tree just outside CVS between Rutherford and Livingston avenues. Where the two had been before and whether either were wearing seat belts are still under investigation, Detective Lt. Eric Fischer said Tuesday.

Flowers, memorial candles, and several items with the logo of Ward’s beloved New York Yankees marked the base of the tree Monday.

Officer to be suspended

Kyreakedes was placed on administrative leave and would be suspended once departmental charges are filed, said Deputy Commissioner Joseph Schaller.

He was hired in July 2015 and graduated from the Westchester County Police Academy in December. His year in uniform included a month of local training and his probationary period concluded in October. Schaller said there was “nothing noteworthy” in Kyreakedes’ conduct and performance since he became a cop.

Thomas Powell sentenced to three years in prison on drug charges

ELLSWORTH, Maine (2009) — A Hancock man who assaulted a police officer has been sent to prison to serve three years behind bars for a previous drug conviction.

Thomas A. Powell III, 20, had been participating in drug court after having been convicted of trafficking in cocaine in 2007. Powell had not met his requirements as a drug court participant when, on Nov. 17, a Hancock County deputy sheriff saw him at Gott’s Store in Southwest Harbor.

Deputy Rob Morang went to place Powell under arrest but Powell allegedly assaulted the officer, punching him in the face before fleeing on foot into the woods behind the store. Officers with seven area law enforcement agencies, including a Maine State Police trooper and a police dog, went to the scene. With the help of the state police dog, officers caught Powell in the woods about an hour later and took him to jail in Ellsworth.

In early 2007, Powell twice drove a Sullivan man to Bangor so the other man could purchase cocaine, according to documents filed in Hancock County Superior Court. On the second occasion, while Powell was driving the man back to Ellsworth from Bangor, they were stopped by police, who found approximately 1 ounce of cocaine in the car and about $900 in cash that previously had been identified by police for use in a controlled drug purchase, the documents indicate.  MORE
